Ask Sally: Pregnancy Pampering

Pregnancy is such an exciting time but I know first hand that we can get so caught up in preparing for the upcoming arrival of bubba, that sometimes we forget to look after ourselves.

A few of our swiish readers have sent me questions asking how I looked after myself during my pregnancy, so I thought I would share with you my top tips. In truth, I am big on schedules and being organised, so I really made sure that I put aside the time to make pampering (even if it was low key DIY pampering) a priority. After all, we are carrying around and nurturing our unborn child so I think we well and truly deserve it!

So, if you’re pregnant at the moment, congratulations! Here are my top tips on taking care of yourself during this joyous time:

Treat Your Feet

Your feet take a pounding during pregnancy so it’s extremely important to show them some love.
Fill up a tub or footbath with warm water and a sprinkle of Epsom salt. Gently soak your feet and relax. Take it to the next level by lining the bottom of the tub with smooth stones (optional). They feel amazing against your sore soles. Finish off your pampering by rubbing moisturizer into your feet and putting them up for a much-deserved rest.

No time? The Body Shop Peppermint Cooling Foot Spray , $14.95, is great if you get swollen feet; it can take the edge off a little bit!

Bio-Oil For Stretch Marks

As your body grows and your belly expands stretch marks can begin to show. Being prone to stretch marks (in fact, I got them when I put on a lot of weight quite quickly, I expected the same thing to happen whilst pregnant). Bio-Oil twice a day, and not a single stretch mark. You can imagine how happy I was.

A Glowing Complexion

Although plenty of women glow during their pregnancy we can all do with a little extra boost. A scrub is the perfect thing to make your face radiant, clean and clear. They’re easily made at home with a few simple ingredients. Making them yourself also ensure you know exactly what goes in and on your face. I like to use almond oil mixed with brown sugar. Apply it to your face and voilà, you have an excellent soothing and cleansing homemade scrub.

Short on time? Grab Antipodes Reincarnation Pure Facial Exfoliator, $42.00. It contains avocado oil and jojoba beads to scrub, as well as calendula oil to moisturise and nourish the skin. The essential oils make it smell pretty incredible too.

Tea For Two

Herbal teas are incredibly relaxing and so good for you, generally filled with antioxidants. I loved sipping on Higher Living Vitality Tea . It contains citrus peel for added zing as well as licorice root and allspice. This isn’t just for pregnancy though; partners will love it too. Available from supermarkets and health food stores.
