Birthday Parties For Cool Kids
Whether your child is a born celebrity superstar, kindred spirit, or energy fuelled sports maniac, we’ve covered all your bases to save your guests from drowning in temper tantrum tears. You may even be able to keep your own pack of Kleenex at bay!
First things first: always finalise your guest list before addressing themes. This helps you cut costs where you can, and ensures you don’t overspend in terms of catering or set-up. Then move onto the finer details, like working out themes to suit your little lady/man.
Celebrity Superstar in the Making
With these little gemstones, it’s best to stick to the concept of ‘the bigger the better!’ This way you’re sure to impress even the most particular of kiddies.
Theme: Celebrity Kid Pamper Day
Where to hold the event (yes, it’s an event!): Your backyard is probably going to be the best place to have this as long as you have the room, alternatively a large playroom/lounge room in your house.
Activities: Mani-Pedi station, make-overs with a face paint artist (think stars and butterflies), petting zoo, clown or magician, fairy princess and a juke box full of their favourite songs for a post make-over disco session.
Decorations: Balloons and streamers can look really effective if they are strewn up nicely and in bright colours. Make sure you set a colour theme also so that everything is matching.
Cake: The cake should be bright, big, extravagant, delicious, and loaded up with candles.
Boho Flower Child
These are the relaxing parties (once they’ve been set up!). Enjoy yourself with your kids, participate in the activities with them and laze about in the teepee forest.
Theme: Hippie Teepee Forest
Where to set-up camp: A local park is best underneath or near a big tree, so that balloons, pom-poms and lanterns can be hung from there as well as from the teepees.
Activities: flower crown making, bracelet weaving, yoga for kids, story-telling.
Decorations: Lanterns, pom-poms, fake flowers, teepees and big outdoor pillows and blankets for lying on inside the teepees.
Cake: the simpler the better for these laid-back hipster kids. A quick and easy idea is to make a fairy bread tower with sparklers.
2020 Olympic Athlete
Get those joggers on because you’ll be chasing around after these rascals all day! We suggest you avoid giving these fireballs too much sugar or you’ll really wear yourself out!
Theme: Mini Olympics
Activities: Mini Olympics set up, create your own jersey jumper, war paint face makeup, water pistol fights, hula hooping contest, running races, 3-legged race, tug-o-war, medal ceremony to finish the day.
Decorations: always important to keep some balloons floating about, however most of the decorations will be the stations set up for competition. You can also decorate by hanging lots of gold, silver and bronze medals around the room – you can find these in the party section at your local supermarket.
Cake: their appetites will be roaring from an afternoon full of activities, so make sure the cake is big and stick to the theme to keep it fun.
Any kid’s party can be fun, as long as there are plenty of activities for all children so that everybody feels involved. With enough preparation, it will be labeled the party of the year!
