Mothers Day Breakfast Tray

You will need:

  • 138853 Art Star Blackboard Paint
  • 136715 Art Culture Foam Paint Roller with Tray
  • 124050 Artist First Choice Round Paint Brush Size 11
  • 128378 Artist First Choice Unprimed Roll of Canvas
  • 134509 Carnival Arts & Crafts Polyester Fibre Filling
  • 117636 Jo Sonja’s Aqua Acrylic Paint
  • 157243 Urban Artist Petite Stencil – Floral Print
  • 129339 Carnival Arts & Crafts PVA Glue
  • 134389 Tim & Tess Chalk
  • 133258 Art Culture Masking Tape 48mm x 50m
  • 142292 Hobby Line Sponge Dabber Brush
  • 138171 Boxboard 500gsm (cut to same size as tray)
  • A Breakfast tray

How To:

Step 1. Using your foam roller, apply two coats of Art Star Blackboard Paint to the inside of your breakfast tray. Paint the exposed sides of the tray with the Jo Sonja’s aqua paint.

Step 2. Take a large piece of unprimed canvas. Place your tray on the canvas, and then cut around, allowing approximately 15cm around each edge. Start applying your floral pattern in a tiled layout across the canvas, by dabbing the sponge with paint onto the stencil on the fabric. Leave to dry.

Step 3. Cut a piece of boxboard to the size of the tray, and cover with an even layer of polyester filling, around 10cm high. Wrap the canvas over the polyester filling, tucking in and securing to the underside of the cardboard to create neat corners. Hold the underside in place with masking tape. When you come to the last edge, ensure that the filling is even and corners are filled with stuffing, before you tape the last edge down.

Step 4. Apply Carnival Arts & Crafts PVA glue across the cardboard side, ensuring there is coverage in the centre and close to the edges (but not so close you get an overflow). Place your tray on top, then leave overnight to dry, with a heavy book to ensure it holds tight.

How To:

Step 1: Break the block of air dry clay into four pieces. Knead the clay to remove any air bubbles, and then roll the clay out flat into a piece larger enough to fit your hand.

Step 2: Make a stencil of your hand on the white paper, and cut out. Trace the hand shape onto the clay and cut out with the clay tool. Smooth the edges with water and your fingers. Place the heart template onto the clay hand, and trace a heart onto your clay hand, and use the clay knife to cut out. Poke a small hole in the top of the hand, where ribbon will be threaded through to hang it. Leave to dry for 24-48 hours.

Step 3: Sandpaper any uneven edges to create a perfectly smooth surface. Loop the base of your jewellery pin around through the hole. Thread the beads onto the pin and then thread the open end through the hole in the top of the hand with jewellery pliers. Tie a ribbon at the front of the bottom loop, and a hanging ribbon at the top. Add a special photo to the back of the ornament.
