You've got kale and quinoa down pat. Now these are the latest superfood heavyweights on the block.

I’m always looking for nourishing ingredients to add into my Super Green Smoothies. Here are my latest discoveries.... we'd love to know how you work them into your diet!

Here are the newest superfoods to look out for:

BARBERRIES

These traditional Iranian red jewels are jam-packed with vitamin C and have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Sprinkle them onto a dish of rice or couscous, and they’ll bring a burst of gorgeous colour and a tastebud explosion.

BANANA FLOUR

This amazing flour can replace any plain or self-raising flour. Plus it’s gluten-free! It’s made from green bananas and super high in dietary fibre, keeping you fuller for longer without bloating.

BEE POLLEN

An easily absorbed protein loaded with antioxidants, amino acids and fatty acids, bee pollen is a true superfood! It’ll help keep you focused and alert.

BLACK RICE

Also known as ‘forbidden rice’, black rice is a highly treasured rice variety. It is extremely rich in antioxidants, iron, protein, fibre and is 98% fat free. Win!

FARRO

Super low in carbs, farro is a delicious and highly nutritious grain filled with protein and fibre. It’s also rich in magnesium and vitamin B, which support the nervous and immune systems.

HEMP SEEDS

Hemp seeds are the most nutritious seed in the world, some would argue. They are a complete protein source and filled with omega 3, 6, 9 and essential fatty acids.

MAQUI BERRY

Maqui berry is your one-stop source for antioxidants! Found in Chile and only harvested once a year, this superfood also contains vitamin C, calcium, iron and potassium. It has a tarty fruit flavour and is the perfect addition to your smoothie!

MATCHA POWDER

This superfood gets its gorgeous jade forest green colour from being 100% natural green tea leaves stone ground down into a fine powder. It’s packed with more antioxidants than normal green tea and has a concentrated amount of vitamins, minerals and metabolism enhancing, immune boosting and detoxifying properties.

OAT MILK

If you’re lactose-intolerant, vegan or simply want to avoid dairy – then this one’s for you! A healthy alternative, oat milk is made from whole oats and contains 10 essential minerals and 15 vitamins. A single glass of oat milk can contain up to 35% of the recommended daily allowance of calcium. It’s also way lower in fat than normal milk – woohoo!

PURPLE CARROT

While many of us are unfamiliar with purple carrot, its roots date back thousands of years! Now I know it looks a bit like a bruised carrot, but the purple colour gives it extra healthy benefits. Its rich in anthocynanins, vitamin A, and their blue and purple pigments have been found to improve memory, enhance vision, protect against heart attacks, act as anti-inflammatories and even help control weight.
