Tips For Better Sleep

There’s nothing more frustrating than having insufficient or poor quality sleep. Not only does it make you tired, grumpy and stressed but it’s actually bad for your overall health. Sleep is critical for your mood, your memory, building immunity, keeping the kilos off (yes, really!), as well as keeping your major organs in good shape.

So, if you want to increase the quality of your doona time (and who doesn’t?!), here are our top tips:

Relax & Sleep Well App

Glenn Harrold’s Relax & Sleep Well is available for free from the iTunes store – and it’s already helped over 1 million people get a better night’s sleep.  Harrold is one of the world’s most successful hypnotherapists and he takes you on a relaxing journey into a deep state of self-hypnosis. The subtle background sounds help you to connect with a deep feeling of relaxation.

Bodyism Sleep Serenity Drink

Containing (amongst other things) rosemary and licorice root, this chocolate flavour super-foods drink is mixed with milk and taken before you go to bed.  There’s a whole heap of benefits too - not only will it help you sleep more deeply by helping you to relax, but it will help you burn belly fat and avoid depression!  And anything that keeps me feeling good and burns fat whilst I do nothing but snore sounds amazing to me! Available online from Bodyism

Yoga in Bed

Yes, I know it sounds odd but Edward Vilna’s Book (also available on DVD), Yoga in Bed, contains some simple yoga poses that anyone can do, and they really work to help you wind down and relax! The poses can all be done in just a few minutes each. We love The Goddess Stretch, give it a try:

  • Lie on your back with knees bent

  • Place the soles of your feet together, let your knees fall open, forming a diamond shape with your legs.

  • Rest your arms on the bed

  • If you feel any strain, elevate your legs by placing a pillow underneath each knee

  • Hold the pose for 3 – 5 minutes
